Who is responsible? The vast majority of these cats are not killed by cruel individuals. They are killed because of an antiquated animal control system.

Feral cats are not socialized to humans. They are not candidates for adoption into homes. To put them into an animal control system is to hand these animals a death sentence.

A recent Alley Cat Allies national survey conducted by Harris Group reveals that an overwhelming majority of Americans — 81% — believes that leaving a stray cat outside to live out his life is more humane than having the cat caught and killed. And despite the public’s humane ethic, feral and stray cats are still being killed because of the operating policies of most U.S. animal pounds and shelters.

This is cruel and criminal. What a terrible way for a loving puppy to enter the world. Puppies can't talk for themselves and need you to speak for them. Your voice is heard. Oscar the Cat Predicts Patients' Deaths

You all know how much I love animals... but if Oscar the cat got a little too cozy with me I think I would panic.

You see Oscar has an uncanny ability to know when someone is dying.

Oscar lives in a senior home and will climb into a person's bed and cuddles up with them during their last days and gives them comfort in their transition.

I wonder if he makes house calls?

Puppies Are Biodegradable: Animal Rescue

I always send you articles on cute and loving animals that touch your heart. Now I want to touch your heart in another way. Will you please help me help those that are unable to help themselves?

There is an art exhibit in Pennsylvania raising awareness of the realities of puppy mills.

In a disturbing newspaper article, John Spidaliere reported on a meeting of the West Hempfield Township Zoning Board where a farmer, Henry U. Stoltzfus, was applying for a permit to build a dog breeding facility in Lancaster County. Zimmerman and others from this association often guide farmers hoping to build high volume dog breeding kennels through the local zoning board process.

Concerned that Stoltzfus was building a "puppy mill" on his property, a neighbor asked Zimmerman what would happen to Stoltzfus's puppies if they are not sold. Zimmerman replied that the puppies would be killed and that unsold dogs would be exterminated, composted and spread as fertilizer on fields. Zimmerman told the neighbor that they would be "left to rot" and that "they are biodegradable."

Smooshi Smooch-Sweet Interspecies Love

Wanted: Walrus Seeking Young Handsome Male...

How would you like to have a kiss from a 1,400-pound walrus? Well, a love affair of an extraordinary kind is what everyone is talking about.

Berlin Zoo's Newest Baby Elephant

The Berlin zoo said the young bull was the third baby born to 26-year-old African elephant Pori, and the 12th at the zoo since 1998. He weighed 258 pounds at birth.

In reports accompanying pictures of Sunday's elephant rescue, some media portrayed the elephant as having been rejected by his mother, but the zoo said Pori and her 6-year-old daughter, Tana, were “taking exemplary care of the newborn.”

“The mother nudged the baby to make it get on its feet, but on the pictures it looks like she wanted to flatten it,” Blaszkiewitz said. “However, elephants always do that, and they do it very carefully with their feet and their trunk.”

He's sooo cute!

The new arrival comes five months after the birth of a major Berlin animal star – Knut the polar bear, who was rejected by his mother and hand-raised by zookeepers at the capital's other major zoo.

Germany's Lovesick Black Swan

Have you heard of the beautiful ex-pat Aussie black swan that has fallen in love at a lake near Münster, Germany? A real swan lake.

This swan, named Petra, has fallen for big plastic swan-shaped paddle boat. Those Aussies are so romantic!

Petra is showing all the typical signs of love for her species - circling her plastic lover, staring longingly at it and making crooning noises.

Last winter, lovesick Petra refused to fly south for winter without her mate.

Hearing about Petra's plight Allwetter Zoo agreed that both Petra and her swan boat could spend the winter on their pond near the elephant enclosure, which is more protected from the elements than the lake.

Petra firmly believes she has found a partner for life.

And I wish them all the happiness in the world!
