Ginny - The Dog Who Rescues Cats

When I read this article and watched the video I could barely believe my eyes!

A schnauzer-Siberian husky mix named Ginny was rescued from a shelter by her life-long caretaker, Philip Gonzalez.

Ginny was abandoned and locked in a closet with her puppies for a week before she was rescued and taken to the shelter where Gonzalez found her.

As dogs remember, Ginny returned her good fortune by rescuing as many as 900 lost and homeless cats during her lifetime.

Philip states that her heroism was based on an inherent love for cats, a love that was enthusiastically returned by her grateful feline friends.

Ginny once threw herself against a vertical pipe at a construction site to topple it and reveal the kittens trapped inside. Another time she ignored the cuts on her paws as she dug through a box of broken glass to find an injured cat inside.

Deservingly, Ginny was named Westchester Cat of the Year in 1998 for her uncanny skill and bravery in finding and rescuing endangered felines.

Sadly, Ginny passed last year at age 17 in the arms of Philip, and surrounded by 20 of her rescued cats. The Westchester Cat Show gave her a heartwarming memorial service which was attended by 300 cats.
