Germany's Lovesick Black Swan

Have you heard of the beautiful ex-pat Aussie black swan that has fallen in love at a lake near Münster, Germany? A real swan lake.

This swan, named Petra, has fallen for big plastic swan-shaped paddle boat. Those Aussies are so romantic!

Petra is showing all the typical signs of love for her species - circling her plastic lover, staring longingly at it and making crooning noises.

Last winter, lovesick Petra refused to fly south for winter without her mate.

Hearing about Petra's plight Allwetter Zoo agreed that both Petra and her swan boat could spend the winter on their pond near the elephant enclosure, which is more protected from the elements than the lake.

Petra firmly believes she has found a partner for life.
